Records Requests

Medical Examiner Records may take up to six months from the date of passing and are releasable after finalization. Please see below exceptions.

If the report you are requesting is "pending" your request will be processed once the report has been finalized and is available for distribution. Reports available for distribution may take 7-10 days for fulfillment.

Cases that include potential criminal charges, in custody deaths, or are classified as undetermined, will require additional time as authorization must be obtained from the lead law enforcement agency and/or the State Attorney.

The above statements do not include all exemptions of public record which may be found and are provided pursuant to Florida Statute § 119 and Florida Statute § 406.

Death certificates are not available through the Medical Examiner's office. Please contact the funeral home or the Florida Department of Health in the county where the death occurred.

Autopsy photos are protected and may only be released as stated in Florida Statute 406.135
