Medical Examiner
Records Requests

  • Medical Examiner Records may take up to six months from the date of passing and are releasable after finalization.  Please see below exceptions.

  • If the report you are requesting is "pending" your request will be processed once the report has been finalized and is available for distribution.  Reports available for distribution may take 7-10 days for fulfillment.

  • Cases that include potential criminal charges, in custody deaths, or are classified as undetermined, will require additional time as authorization must be obtained from the lead law enforcement agency and/or the State Attorney.

  • The above statements do not include all exemptions of public record which may be found and are provided pursuant to Florida Statute § 119 and Florida Statute § 406.

  • Death certificates are not available through the Medical Examiner's office. Please contact the funeral home or the Florida Department of Health in the county where the death occurred. 

  • Autopsy photos are protected and may only be released as stated in Florida Statute 406.135
